Bio
Grant Patterson – affectionately known as ‘Scooter’ – began his swimming career in 2007. In 2009, Scooter set the world record as the first S3 athlete to break the two-minute mark in the Men’s 100m Backstroke.
Following his debut at the 2010 World Championships, he brought home seven medals from the 2011 Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championships. Scooter’s Paralympic debut was in London in 2012. Although he did not medal in 2012, Scooter achieved his childhood dream in Tokyo, where he won bronze in the Men’s 150m Individual Medley (SM3). He also won a silver medal – and set a new Oceania record – in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke (SB2).
Patterson maintained his podium streak in Paris with two bronze medals, one in the 150m medley SM3 and the other in the 50m breaststroke SB2.
The three-time Paralympian has diastrophic dysplasia, a joint fusion disability connected to dwarfism.
